Extended stay for foreign yachts opens up the region to more international yachts, contributing to the local economy and tourism
Marine tourism in the Gulf of Thailand is about to boom. The 5th Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show – held 24-27 November, 2016 and set to be the biggest yet with more boats on display than ever – and new improved Customs rulings allowing visiting foreign vessels to stay longer in-country – together lay solid foundations for marine tourism growth in Pattaya and surrounds.
Pattaya’s multi-billion baht marine industry is poised to grow exponentially over the next few years.
“Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show has grown steadily since it was launched five years ago. The event is a key business event for the marine industry and in addition to welcoming many domestic visitors each year the event has grown to attract many international visitors also. The confidence that the international community has in this event and Thailand’s burgeoning marine industry underscores its potential and importance to the Thai economy,” said Dr. Tirachai Pipitsupaphol, Managing Director, Ocean Property.
Supporting Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show’s aim to make Pattaya the Riviera of Asia, to promote marine tourism in the region and showcase the Gulf of Thailand, is a new ruling on the temporary importation of visiting foreign yachts.
“In the past foreign vessels entering Pattaya were given a relatively short period for temporary importation. This has now changed. The Customs Department in Pattaya have agreed that the “Temporary Importation Permit for Visiting Foreign Vessels” will allow international yachts a period of six months stay which can be extended in-country, opening up the region’s potential to visiting yachts from overseas,” said Mrs. Montira Cherdchoo, Director of Map Ta Phut Customs House, The Customs Department.
This means that Pattaya will become a hub for regional marine tourism and is set to welcome more than 1,000 international yachts and superyachts annually in the near future, boosting Thailand’s tourism revenue.
“Many people are not aware of the beauty of this region. There are 187 islands in the Gulf of Thailand with 43 within one hour by boat of Ocean Marina itself. The cruising grounds are spectacular and the extended say allowed for foreign yachts will help open up the region. This is a very positive move and the region is ready to welcome more than one thousand foreign yachts annually,” added Dr. Tirachai.
Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show is a large-scale international event that helps to drive marine business growth in the Gulf of Thailand. Pattaya’s marine tourism fundamentals are strong and the region is expecting to become a leading marine tourism destination.
The four-day Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show will showcase upto 20,375 sqm of onshore and in-water exhibition space, including leading international boat and superyacht brands Admiral, Azimut Yachts, Beneteau, Cranchi, CNB Yachts, Jeanneau, Lagoon, Monte Carlo Yachts, Prestige, Princess Yachts, Sanlorenzo, Viking Yachts and Wider, as well as a large selection of brokerage yachts, and displays by marine products and suppliers, lifestyle products and services, luxury property and more. One of the highlights of the show is that visitors can view and walk through a boat, and if interested can go out for a test drive – something other shows in the region do not offer.
The 5th Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show will take place 24 – 27 November, 2016 at Ocean Marina, Pattaya, Thailand.
Boat Lagoon Yachting is set to put seven of its luxury yachts on show during Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show 2016, happening on the 24th – 27th November.
Featuring in Boat Lagoon Yachting’s showcase are the Princess 42, Princess 52, Princess 56, Princess 72 Motor Yacht, Princess 88 Motor Yacht, Prestige 420 and Prestige 500.
“Boat Lagoon Yachting represents some of the most prestigious brands in the world of yachting and we are proud to be part of the Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show,” said Vrit Yongsakul, Group Managing Director of Boat Lagoon Yachting.

CRAFTED IN PLYMOUTH, ENGLAND
Perched on the edge of the English Channel lies the city of Plymouth, where we established our home in 1965. Today Princess shipyards cover an area of over 1.1 million square feet, an area rich in British maritime heritage. In fact, South Yard, where our M Class Superyachts are constructed, is a former naval yard dating back to the 17th century. From the outset, our goal has been to meticulously sculpt our yachts around our owners’ enjoyment of them. Such dedication and attention to detail resonates deeply with our Plymouth craftsmen. Over 2,050 people, each possessing a mastery of their skill, fastidiously realise this vision in our shipyards. Through a culture of innovation, our yachts are not only some of the most technically-advanced in the world but also the most beautifully realised.
BEAUTY IS ALWAYS IN THE DETAIL
We are determined to develop ever more ingenious ways to ensure every last millimetre of your boat is ergonomically sound, highly practical, and spatially perfect. Once our team of naval architects, designers and engineers have determined a design, our craftspeople fastidiously bring it to life. Every beautiful detail is crafted and finished within our Plymouth shipyards. This enables us to consistently monitor quality throughout each build. Seeing is believing though, so we invite future owners to pay us a visit and see beauty in progress through their own eyes.
DEEPLY INGENIOUS, THE PRINCESS DEEP-V HULL
Our pioneering deep-V hulls are born from our naval architect’s obsession with exceptional seakeeping and voluminous space. Their sculpted form is shaped from a lightweight, resin-infused hull composite which can create greater internal volume compared to standard hull production methods. This ingenious design ensures it requires less power and burns less fuel to achieve its maximum design speed. Such precision thinking gives rise to the most exhilarating performance, defined by its efficiency, agility and poise. So whether you’re slicing through the seas at 40 knots or navigating stormy waters – a foundation of superior engineering rides with you.
PRINCESS 42
The Princess 42 has become an iconic Princess model, setting the benchmark for fast motor yachts in her size range. An ideal family cruiser, she combines confident sea-keeping with strong performance and class leading interior space for elegant entertaining. The latest 42 adopts a lean and more dynamic profile with wrap-around windscreen and larger, sleeker windows and portlights. A wealth of design detail adorns the interior too, from the well-proportioned, teak-laid steps linking the cockpit and flybridge, to the impressively wide side decks and thoughtfully positioned hand rails. She’s also wonderfully practical, with a large lazarette and storage below the cockpit seat, and an easily accessible engine room. Beautifully constructed and immaculately finished, the 42 is the very essence of a modern Princess motor yacht.
PRINCESS 52
Giving extraordinary volume for its size, the 52 provides a palatial full beam master suite plus two further generous cabins. The upper accommodation level offers a new galley aft arrangement equally able to cater for intimate internal dining or lavish cockpit parties. Her resin infused hull will offer owners performance and efficiency in equal measure. The steering is so instinctive and light that you have to remind yourself you are at the helm of a 54ft, three-cabin boat. The Princess 52 shows agility as well as robust seakeeping and is an excellent advert for what a really well designed shaft installation can do.
PRINCESS 56
Leading the display at the Singapore Rendezvous event is our very own Princess 56, the perfect yacht for entertaining family and friends. Princess 56 is something of a breakthrough in layout & features. The fine vessel, which also happens to have one of the best range to cruise in the region, perfectly combines a spacious and exquisitely appointed interior with an exhilarating performance and highly sociable exterior deck layout. Renowned for making the most of every foot of hull length, the 56’ offers you an unrivalled level of space and ability, perfect for entertaining family, friends and corporate guests. The interior is crisp and contemporary and finished to the highest quality to create an interior ambience of a much larger vessel.
As with all Princess Yachts, the vessel is the result of a rigorous and uncompromising approach to design and manufacture from pioneering hull designs to cutting-edge engineering and production techniques. The trademark Princess deep-V hull ensures confident seakeeping and the very latest hull design delivers lower planing speeds, improved efficiency and superior performance.
PRINCESS 72 MOTOR YACHT
The 72 Motor Yacht perfectly combines the elegance and stature of a true motor yacht with an agile, class leading performance. A galley that can be fully enclosed or open plan, side access door from the help and generous separate crew cabin allow the 72 to be crew run, whilst good sight-lines and fingertip controls ensure that owner operation is equally feasible. Full air conditioning is standard, as is the flybridge crane that augments bathing platform dinghy stowage. This is Princess packaging at its best.
PRINCESS 88 MOTOR YACHT
Our 88 Motor Yacht personifies the finest qualities of Princess design and craftsmanship. Her unique deep-V hull design balances incredible fuel efficiency with breathtaking performance and agility. The vast flybridge and cockpit areas are exceptionally appointed for formal or social occasions. And from the saloon, at the touch of a button, a balcony unfolds over the sea, providing the perfect spot to enjoy a sunset.
Exquisitely handcrafted and furnished to your tastes, her vast interior is a real joy. Light reaches into every area with panoramic windows on the main deck. The expansive saloon and dining area create a wonderfully sociable space. On the lower deck you have a choice of four or five ensuite cabins, each one exuding the authentic Princess feeling of world-class quality.
Generously proportioned crew quarters aft incorporating a captain’s cabin, bunk cabin and crew mess complete her impressive layout.
PRESTIGE
Created over 20 years ago, Prestige is now an internationally recognized brand, present on four continents through a network of specialized dealers trained by the shipyard. In 2010, the Prestige 60 was elected “European Boat of the Year” by a jury of marine professionals. In 2011, the new Generation 2 introduced advances in design quality, interior furnishings, fit and finish. In 2016, Prestige 630 was featured as one of the 11 most captivating yachts from the 2016 Cannes Yachting Festival.
Each new advance leads to another. Now, the Prestige range is available in three distinct model lines: Flybridge, Express, and Sport Top. If size is an indicator of success, Prestige is now moving toward creating models close to 70 feet in length, Prestige Yachts. Prestige has become a style, a global brand.
PRESTIGE 420
Following the trend of the latest PRESTIGEs, the PRESTIGE 420 benefits from a signature aesthetic that is dynamic and unsurpassed.
Highlighted on the exterior by her light Flybridge and timeless lines, the style of the GARRONI design cabinet is also beautifully expressed on the interior, cleverly combining the bright open living spaces on the main deck with the very private spaces of the two cabins with separate entrances, a unique feat on a 42-footer.
The secure and comfortable hull designed by Jernej Jakopin for the Volvo Penta IPS 400 engine delivers on its promises with exceptional sea keeping and maneuverability.
PRESTIGE 500
Balanced forms and overall expression affirm power and security, the Flybridge of the PRESTIGE 500 is the point of pride of the boat, with a unique size for a motor yacht of 50’. Her interior layout features two concepts that define her personality: an immense living space on a single level, benefitting from a spacious integrated galley that services both the interior and exterior, and her owner’s suite bathed in light by two large panoramic windows, with an independent access and a very large adjoining head and shower compartment.
A great success, and equipped with a propulsion pod, this PRESTIGE has won more awards than any 50-footer in the world!

Located 23km off Pattaya’s coast, the Koh Phai Group is a small archipelago of uninhabited islands which includes Koh Klung Badan, Koh Man Wichai and Koh Luam with Koh Phai (also known as Bamboo Island) the largest of the group. Under the supervision of the Royal Thai Navy these islands are kept in pristine condition with no facilities onshore and no overnight stays allowed.
Koh Phai has a green hilly interior, at its widest point is 1.5km and has a 150 metre summit on top of which stands a lighthouse. The island is famous for its palm-fringed white-sand beaches and has possibly some of the best snorkeling and divining with natural corals of anywhere in the Pattaya area.
The Gulf of Thailand is a relatively undiscovered cruising region. While Phuket and the Andaman Sea on Thailand’s west coast has been famous for many years, Pattaya and the Gulf of Thailand is only recently being discovered.
Forty-three islands are within one hour by boat from Ocean Marina, putting the marina at the heart of this growth in the region’s marine tourism popularity, and with 187 islands dotted along the Gulf of Thailand’s coastline there are plenty of opportunities to explore and find a spot to call your own.
News of the region’s beauty is now spreading as is the growth of chartering in the region.
“The Gulf of Thailand has in the past been overlooked by cruising yachts and charterers but that is now changing. The region has lots to offer. There are hundreds of quiet coves and bays, stunning islands and beaches. The cruising potential is endless and the charter opportunities are only now being realised,” commented Mr. Scott Finsten, Harbour Master, Ocean Marina.
Six charter companies base themselves at Ocean Marina – the largest marina in South East Asia – and offer everything from one day island trips to multi-day crewed and bareboat charters. In addition there are many other charter operators that keep boats at the marina and use it as the launch pad for exploring the surrounding region. From 25-foot sailing yachts upto 100-foot-plus motor yachts, the choice of charter vessel is diverse with the largest charter yacht currently at Ocean Marina being the 41-metre futuristic-looking superyacht, Ocean Emerald.
“We expect to see the region’s popularity as a cruising and charter destination continue to grow. As well as more international visitors and boat owners getting out on the water and enjoying the above water and underwater beauty of the area, more Thai people are also appreciating their natural assets and enjoying time out at sea.”
Thailand’s third most popular tourist destination, Pattaya is an economic engine for Thailand’s tourism industry and this is being recognised with current and planned infrastructure investment from both the public and private sectors.
The Transport Ministry and Royal Thai Navy have agreed a plan to develop U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya International Airport with an expected six-fold increase in traffic by 2020. The 1.7 billion baht expansion will increase annual passenger capacity to 3 million and boost the region’s tourist potential through increased connectivity.
In addition to a number of domestic routes by Thai Air Asia, Bangkok Airways and Kan Airlines, the international flight roster is growing. Air Asia recently started flying from Malaysia four times a week, Emirates connects Pattaya with Dubai and Thai Air Asia are planning flights to a number of Chinese destinations in the near future.
In addition to the airpot expansion, a new expressway is planned from Bangkok to Map Ta Phut in Rayong, cutting down journey time to the Eastern Seaboard and opening up the region, while a high-speed trail proposal from Bangkok to Rayong remains on the table.
The Transport Ministry have also proposed an East-West ferry service between Pattaya and Hua Hin. With travel time expected to be 1.5-2 hours as opposed to 4-5 hours by road, the feasibility study is underway and the ferry is expected to be in operation by 2020.
With investment flowing into Pattaya and its surrounds, the region looks set to see continued economic growth.
It’s been a busy few weeks with more exhibitors confirming and space at the 2016 Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show filling up.
Joining the world-class line-up of yachts from Princess Yachts, Monte Carlo Yachts and Azimut this year are Cranchi, a selection of pre-owned yachts including Ferretti Yachts, and Derani Yachts who will be representing Fairline, Dominator, Absolute Yachts, Selene Yachts, Fleming Yachts and the multi-award-winning Axpor Boats from Finland, at the show.
The largest construction chemicals company in Thailand and with many years experience supplying marine products to the industry, Sika (Thailand) will be exhibiting their market-leading adhesive and sealant products.
German specialists in oils, lubricants and additives, Liqui Moly GMBH, will be onshore showcasing their display of products while V.R. Handle will be attending the show for the first time and exhibiting their stainless product range.
From the marine events world, organisers of the Macau Yacht Show will be exhibiting in the onshore zone for the first time with organisers of the Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) back for a third year.
As the Gulf of Thailand’s charter industry grows, more and more charter companies and agents are opening up in the region. Showcasing their Marquis 560 charter packages at the Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show will be Sky Cruise Phuket.
Iconic property developments in the Gulf of Thailand are seeing the synergy between the boating lifestyle and luxury living with Mövenpick Residences & Pool Villas (Pattaya) and Ocean Property (Bangkok, Pattaya and Hua Hin) exhibiting their residential and investment offerings at the show, while in the Food and Beverage Zone Stella Artois Beer, New York! New York!, and designer ice cream maker Annetteitimtuktuk, who will be displaying their iconic three-wheeler ice cream tuk tuk, will be catering to the thousands expected to visit the show.
Ocean Marina’s close proximity to Bangkok makes it the number one coastal destination and weekend getaway for the capital’s 8+ million inhabitants. Within minutes of arriving at the marina, visitors can be on the water enjoying the 43 islands that are within one hour by boat. In fact, the Gulf of Thailand offers spectacular cruising with a total of 187 islands dotted along the coastline.
One of the closet islands to Ocean Marina Yacht Club is Koh Rang Kwian, a small rocky outcrop located approximately 12km directly off the marina. Koh Rang Kwian is a relatively untouched island gem easilly reached by boat. Also known as Cliff Rock it’s rugged features make it a stand out from many other islands nearby.
Heading 10km west of Koh Rang Kwian is Koh Rin, famed for its 800 metre long white sandy beach. The crystal clear waters are great for swimming and the coral in the main bay a good place for snorkelling. For those that enjoy a little more adventure, try the reefs at nearby North Rock and South Rock.

Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show has a clear aim to grow the Thai boating market and since launching the show five years ago, there has been considerable growth in marine tourism and boat use in the Gulf of Thailand.
The boat show has helped to position the region as a leading marine destination in South East Asia, and according to Mr. Finsten, “The number of boat owners overseas choosing Ocean Marina to base their boats and the number of Thai people buying boats in the region has increased, and this is a trend that looks to continue.”
68% of visitors to the 2015 show were Thai, a key demographic for organisers and exhibitors, and a statistic in-line with Ocean Marina’s experience of a boom in the number of Thai people spending time on the water.
“The number of Thai people enjoying the boating lifestyle has increased exponentially in the last five years. Not only are more Thais coming to Ocean Marina Pattaya Boat Show as a way to learn about boating and to research and buy products, but we see more Thai people chartering boats, getting out on the water and enjoying the beautiful marine playground here in the Gulf of Thailand,” added Mr. Finsten.
