Thailand’s East Coast – An Undiscovered Sailing Destination

Many people remain convinced that if you want to go sailing in Thailand you must go to the Phuket-Phang Nga-Krabi triangle.

But that’s just not the case. All told, there are 187 islands to explore in the Gulf of Thailand. There is some terrific sailing to be done in the Koh Chang archipelago, specifically the three main islands of Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood.

The jumping off point for these destinations is Ocean Marina, Thailand (and South East Asia’s) largest marina where there are close to 70 boats available to choose from for charter or join-in trips. And if time is of the essence, those charter companies offering multi-day cruising can arrange for you to pick up your boat at Koh Chang, Thailand’s second largest island.

There are many isolated bays and anchorages in the archipelago that make for a perfect sailing holiday and you’re unlikely to see much other boat traffic making you feel like you are alone in your own water wonderland.

For the more adventurous with the proper visa and custom documentation, you can sail into Cambodian waters and venture to areas that few sailboats ever get to visit.

The nexus for all sailing on Thailand’s east coast is Ocean Marina – whether you want to go to a sailing school, buy marine supplies, fix your yacht, moor your yacht, anything and everything is available at Ocean Marina.

If you don’t have time for an extended trip to the Koh Chang area you can always do a day trip from Ocean Marina to one of the many neighbouring islands, and if you want to practice your navigation skills head over Koh Si Chang way and the channel that leads to Laem Chabang – one of the busiest seaports in all of Southeast Asia.

An extended sailing trip that will take you close to Cambodian waters and a number of deserted islands, or for those on a tight timeline a day cruise to go snorkeling and have a picnic on a scenic beach – it’s all available and possible through the companies operating out of Ocean Marina.
